I’m having a bit of a moment over here. I’ve spent the last month going on dates with women and I am high on it. I’ve had cocktails in the novel sunshine of daylight saving time, beers in the shade, stacks of welsh rarebit on my lunch break, and pre-9am breakfast coffees. Call it networking, call it brain-picking, call it cooking up a big cauldron of condensed female energy; I’ve spent the last four weeks on a hunter-gatherer mission, and these women have been sharpening my spears.

it’s been a while

saturday morning

the road rippled before me, and distant villages in the mountains shone like pinches of salt on silk. sometimes, leaving the road, i would walk into the sea and pull it voluptuously over my head, and stand momentarily drowned in the cool blind silence, in a salt-stung neutral nowhere.

laurie lee, as i walked out one midsummer morning.

this time last week i was in this sea. eighty years later and the shore has changed dramatically but the sea has stayed the same. now im in my room in bristol, listening to the rain and the traffic, drinking my coffee and reading this. i like both places.

you see, i want a lot.
perhaps i want everything
the darkness that comes with every infinite fall
and the shivering blaze of every step up.
so many live on and want nothing
and are raised to the rank of prince
by the slippery ease of their light judgements
but what you love to see are faces
that do work and feel thirst.
you love most of all those who need you

as they need a crowbar or a hoe.

you have not grown old, and it is not too late
to dive into your increasing depths
where life calmly gives out its own secret.

Under Milkwood from Jessica Lim on Vimeo.

so wonderful, i could listen to this every night to send me off to sleep. the production  was amazing with a small cast who each played multiple roles and never left the stage, with lilting tones and dreamlike scenes it was beautiful.

summer summer summertime

time to sit back and unwind.

small things

two things that are super cool: i use one for everyday and i hope for the other one for the future. made by extremely clever people.

full circle

i visited brighton at the weekend for the first time since i left last year and it was wonderful. i miss it and the people i left there but i have my dream job in bath so what can you do.

we went to this great exhibition. the idea behind it was to reflect on the huge amount of paper waste accumulated throughout the festive season and find a creative use for it. so in the middle of an empty white room there was a greenhouse filled with hole punch circles where you can take off your shoes and go inside. you could throw handfuls of the circles into the air and it was like being in a giant snow globe. there was something so calming and magical about being inside there and i realised that it would be great to have a dedicated glitter room in your house for stress relief. it really works.

wild food

we’ve been finding mushrooms and wild carrots and eating dandelions and i’m becoming excited about foraging in the english countryside. this website is a great resource for everything to do with foraging…
